MOTORHEAD: Over Night Sensation Motorhead Bar

We would like to give special thanks RON OTT who sent us this very interesting review of his recent Motrhead experience.
Over Night Sensation

Experiencing An OVERNIGHT SENSATION

By Ron Ott

Me and my Metalhead friend got to the bar about 8:45, we wanted to be late so we wouldn't have to wait so long for Lemmy. When we got there no band was playin' we got beers and they announced, "Are you ready for the first band?" Oh shit, we found a table and waited. The First band was Miscreants. They were actually pretty good. The lead singer was trying to look like Henry Rollins. After their set was over he was out in the crowd passing out backstage passes to anyone in a tite leather skirt and long hair.

The next band was Rival, they sorta sucked. They played industrial metal with one of those High Voiced lead singers. After their set we moved up front.

Then the surprise of the night, another band came on, I still don't know what their name was, but they really ROCKED!! They sounded like the Damned, when they play New Rose, but they were a little faster. I'm going to call the bar and find out the name. They really impressed me.

To set the scene, we are in bar on the "Dance floor" two standing rows from the stage, Some guy has these two chicks in front of us and are telling me not to push on them. I tell them to get out of the pit because its going to get bloody. They don't believe me, its so sad when someone doesn't listen to reason. As I fight with this guy, and his girls, the pressure starts building up. The bar starts playing Slayer while the roades are setting up. The chick in front starts throwing elbows, trying to say she is tough. Me with 20 years of concert experience (I was in the pit for Black Flag) starts to show her how much she has to learn. Then the bouncer tells me to calm down, we bond, its Motrhead and I don't need more enemies. I bond with the elbow woman also, and ask her boyfriend if her insurance is up to snuff. I tell them keep your heads down for the first couple of songs, and plant your feet solidly. They don't listen! The lights go down Frank (the Metalhead) looks at me and says, "If we get separated meat(sp?) at the car!"

A shaved Lemmy hits the stage with the fury of a huge chainsaw swinging from the ceiling on a tow chain. The first song "Ace of Spades" blasts out. All I see are feet, heads down, the two chicks are gone, In their place, three muscle bound geeks with Motrhead shirts replace them. I think the chicks are dead. DON'T BRING GIRLS INTO THE PIT ! The pushing intensifies and Lemmy is looming over me like the GOD he is. After about 10 songs, the bouncer in front of me screams, I can't breath help me! I put my hands on his shoulders and push back with all my might. 20 elbows go under my pits, I'm so stupid, and I fall back into the moshpit. All is see is jackboots and jeans, I'm going to die! Survival Instincts set in, I get to my feet and run! That's what 20 years of toxic abuse has done to me, made me a quitter, but an alive and kicking quitter.

I finish off the rest of the show in the back, panting and screaming, "Motrhead Rules, Lemmy is my God, and I want to have your Baby!" Meanwhile a hot chick comes up to me and asks, "you look like you know how to have fun, I really need a quarter, Do you have one?" Me being about as bright as a small appliance bulb, I reach into my pocket and pull out a quarter and try to give it to her. She looks at me and laughs, not that kind of quarter, dude, and walks away. Whoa! I picked the wrong time to stop sniffing glue.

Motrhead played mostly old songs, Ace of Spades, Killed by Death, Iron fist, & Motrhead. They played Civil War before I got kicked out of the pit. Lemmy did two encores, Bomber and Overkill. If I wasn't so drunk I would have remembered more, but I can tell you I knew every song they did play and I only listened to Rock 'n' Roll, 1916, Basterds, and Sacrifice once in my life.

All in all I give the show 4 out of 5 Iron fists. I'm taking one back because I got kicked out of the pit by helping a bouncer, and because the music started so late. None of this is Lemmy's fault. We got back home at 2:30 am. My ears stopped ringing about 5:30pm the next day. I think I got most of Lemmys sweat off me. Bought a real cool t-shirt, Its got four shields on the front, one has the Motrhead face, of course. On the bottom is some German writing the probably says this guy is a loser. On the back was the tour dates, with funny little sayings, instead of the cities. This date is the first one on the shirt. I was with Lemmy to kick off his 1996 American tour. Maybe I got to give them one more Iron Fist just for that.

Tickets $19.50, $22.25 with ticket master charge. It wasn't sold out, T-shirts ran $23.00, beer $3.00 a bottle, and no bottles allowed in the pit (I hid mine in my leather). At 50 years old he still rocked, and I think he lost the weight he had put on during the Basters tour.
